If a girl tells you she has a boyfriend her intentions are clear. Doesn't matter if it's truth or made up, she's not interested.
If only it were that simple. "I have a boyfriend" is the most common autopilot there is. The caveat for it being an autopilot is that it's said in the first minute of the interaction.
If it's a 9 or a 10 and it's not true (as most do have boyfriends) then it's simply a time management response to prevent her time being monopolised by guys whom she thinks she will have no interest in.
In my early days if I heard the "I have a boyfriend" response I used to just assume it was true and go sarge other girls. The thing is though: later in the night I used to see these very same girls with their tongue down some other guys throat and think WTF.
The other guys had persisted and had hit paydirt. It confused the hell out of me how these guys were managing to steal another guy's woman and how they did it, so I swallowed my pride and asked the two hottest women I knew from my social circle. The answer of course was "They don't have BF's".
Or as one put it: "You know when you're out shopping in Newcastle and some guy comes up to you and says 'can you spare any change?' what do you say? (my reply being "sorry mate I don't have any")
And her response "and are you telling the truth or do you just want to get rid of someone who is bothering you" I knew exactly what she meant.
Seriously: If you hear the "I have a boyfriend" then just keep chatting till you can find out if it's true.
