I was always told by the PUA's about the importance of not coming across as needy which i get, but at what point should you be persistant ?

Here is the rule, if a girl doesn't tell you to fuck off keep being persistent. It may be really hard but once you do it, it shows you have balls of steel, something girls are attracted to. Think of it as follows there are 3 scenarios

1) A girl says "fuck off"=red light. So just stop talking to her and move on to next girl
2) A girl backs off=yellow light. Many guys think this is a red light but it's not. All the girl means is "wait I am not ready yet". In this case wait a while and then try again.
3) A girl responds positively= green light. It means you should proceed.

Thanks that clears it up for me, lately I've been using too many push and pulls and just backing off when there is no need to.

You gotta have a feel for it. If a girl backs up because she doesn't like you it's easy to know.

If she backs up for any other reason , persistence isn't bad.

When it comes to being persistent, I say there is no limit as to how much effort you should put into it, as long as it doesn't become counter-productive. I mean, if your goal is to get the girl, keep going until you get the girl. But the problem is usually that guys will keep pushing to the point of being clingy, needy, and aggressive and then it puts the girl off. It's sometimes difficult to know how far to push it, because you can't always know for sure.

I've never had pussy just fall in my lap, so I'm used to working for it. I've had to work really hard for f-closes in the past and I'm glad I did. And the times that I've been really persistent and it didn't pan out, I don't think it would've panned out no matter what I did (like the time I let the girl flake on me 5 times in a row). So my personal opinion is that it is better to be overly persistent than not be.
