Question: "retail girls" are you talking about girls who work retail with you or girls who come in to the store to buy shit?

I have a feeling you may be talking about customers...but while I'm waiting for your response, I'm just going to answer about co-workers because it's totally the more difficult scenario:

Okay, I have no experience in the retail world other than buying inordinate amounts of shoes, but I'm going to give a stab at this because I care.

I have a theory about women that may apply. Hell, it may apply to men too. It's called the microcosm attraction theory. I noticed it because I'm an actor, and I am frequently thrown into intense temporary closed cultures.

When a woman is put into a sub-community (i.e. the workplace, class, etc.) attraction plays funky tricks on her. She will become attracted to the best possible option around. Now, she may not have played with the idea of connecting with this person unless they had been sectioned off into the smaller pool, but the attraction is real (even if she rationally acknowledges the fact that she would not be interested in this person if they weren't in the subculture... like we all know... attraction is not a choice.) The microcosm attraction effect happens due to a mixture of evolution and boredom.

Discerning sales-friendly from regular friendly, I don't think this is the issue. Bartenders make a living shooting off fake IOI's and getting tips. Perhaps some retail women do this to a lesser extent to gain commission, but you're not a customer. Unless they're just being "nice" to you to keep their work environment smooth, but you could probably tell.

My advice: This may be like getting a girl out of the LJBF zone. You'll have to re-define everything with her because you have a pre-defined relationship (co-workers.) Neg, neg, neg. False disqualify. Push and pull. This way, you're squeezing out more IOI's. Compliance test. Once you're convinced it's not just "sales friendly" and successfully re-defined your relationship with her attraction, proceed to C1-C3 just like with a normal girl.

Hooking up with coworkers can be a total bitch though. You may have to deal with the repercussions if it blows up in your face. Balls are not optional in this situation.

Unless she's shooting you IOI's, I'd assume it's sales friendly. However, you should be in control of getting her to IOI.

This is true. I worked closely with this married girl for a few months and we became deeply attracted to each other. This was before my introduction to the game. I did not make a move and we've since moved out of the group and went our separate ways, but the interesting thing is that I still have feelings for her lingering around inside. As an addendum to your microcosm attraction theory, you should add that attraction is much more intense under those circumstances.

+1 on the false disqualification. In other words have an alibi if it all blows up in your face. Still no guarantees. You're a guy remember. Some things are assumed.

I don't know about all the other analysis, or theory.

For me it's quite simple. If you're interested in a girl in a work environment, you get her isolated outside of that environment at the first possible opportunity. And don't mix the two.

I'm often reminded of what my mother and father used to tell me years ago.. "Don't play where you get your pay". Although this can be a double edged sword. Poor characters will also try to use whatever power they can muster against you. Either as retaliation for rejecting their advances, or when your interest suddenly turns south.

As far as the retail situation. In my experience, it's quite rare to find young female sales help that will spend more than a few very casual minutes with you if she's not interested. And their signals are very easy to read. Open body language and a friendly demeanor is often all that's required. Beyond that, escalate first, ask questions later...

Of course like anything, a lot of this depends upon the two people involved. So, one must be able to think on their feet somewhat and adapt to the situation as it unfolds. Patience can be a virtue. And as always detach yourself from the outcome. What appears to be a loss in the short term, can often be a win long term by doing one simple thing. Always act properly.

Seems to me you have to have some re-defined relationship attraction in place in order to get her isolated, unless it's a serendipitous isolation that's pure coincidence. Can you think of another way to isolate her unless this happens? Maybe a hypothetical example? I'm now totally interested in this.
