I am new and still an AFC. But tonight I decided to go out and try meeting women completely sober. Which usually I try being slightly buzzed to help with the nerves. I don't want to have to rely on alcohol though.

I decided to go up to a guy and a girl sitting together and I used the "Do you believe in spells?" opener. I was incredibly nervous and it showed through my voice and body language. They were really bored with the story and I could tell that they wanted me to leave. Once I got done with the story, all they said was "cool". And I asked how they knew each other and they said military but then I left because they showed now IOI's to me at all.

I get really nervous when I'm around new people. I'm assuming I just gotta keep trying to build up more confidence and get the anxiety down, but I certainly feel like I failed badly tonight.

You did not fail badly. You succeeded incredibly by taking action. Not approaching would be failing badly. Make sure you adopt this mindset or you will not get far. The reaction is not the goal. The goal is to take action. The fact that you approached should be a success, not getting a good reaction. You have to adopt this mindset, but also think to yourself, "how could I have done that better?" Good luck friend, please keep trying

Go to a bar or a place where you feel you can pick up women, open sets, etc. Visit that place so often so you can be comfortable in that environment. The goal is to make you feel that the people you walk up to are visitors in you're house! not the other way around. With that mindset it will help you seem more confident, YOU will be the alpha male checking whats in his territory. Keep in mind the more you open sets the easier it becomes.
