" Does it contradict what he said about confidence? An Alpha male needs to be confident while a PUA doesn't necessary have to possess confidence, right? Isn't a PUA an alpha male?

Alpha male and PUA are categories that occasionally overlap... an alpha male is not necessarily a PUA and a PUA is not necessarily an alpha male...

Alpha male = dominant male of a group, natural leader of the pack

PUA = pick up artist (focus on ARTIST, as a learned skill)

competence means knowing what to do in a certain situation, how to respond to it or how to elicit a certain response from the target, which beats just being confident... and a true PUA, based on his experience with women, most definitely already has tons of confidence... hope my response helps...
