Go up to them while having good eye contact. Stop in front of them and say: "Hey!" "Do you have a phone?" If they do, tell them to give the phone to you for a bit. Then put your number in and call your phone. After that say thanks and walk away.

Look for some good openers on here or think of some. It honestly doesn't even matter what you say when you approach them as long as you do it with confidence (I proved this to myself last night but number-closing an HB8 who has a boyfriend. For my opener I literally asked what she was was cuter, otters or penguins.)

As for being nervous because your friends are around, don't worry about it. I used to have this same problem, and still do some times. The thing is, you may think they will make fun of you, but I can almost guarantee they will give you props for approaching a girl. Here's a personal story to show what I mean: on valentine's day I made an approach on a cute girl at my college. This was before I had found this forum and knew about the PUA community. It was easily the worst approach I've ever done. I got shot down immediately. What's worse is I noticed 4 other guys who had witnessed the whole thing. They didn't give me a hard time at all. They walked up to me and gave me props for trying, talking about how hot she was. The point is many guys are too nervous to do it and you will look alpha. If they do give you a hard time then challenge them to go approach a girl and "show you how it's done".

Whatever you do, just be confident and have fun. Hope this helps a little.
