Probably because you are so concerned about whether she is invested in the conversation. You aren't present and are not really listening to what she is saying. If she is still there talking to you then there is a reason for that. If she isn't giving you the cold shoulder, negative body language, or walking away, just assume that she is on board for wherever YOU lead the interaction.

The IOI's you describe here are the invitation to come and talk to her. This does not mean she has spread her legs and invited you in for a taste! She said "Come talk to me" and you replied with "Cheesy opener that makes girls giggle" then you followed it with what? Tell her a story about her hair, make a joke about the guy behind her staring at her ass, tell her the shoes she has on look like Jamacian Ski Boots! Whatever, but dont expect she will just fall all over you! You will need to carry the conversation until you find the Hook Point. Once you are there then you can start to build rapport and get to know her, until this happens you will not get many actual IOI's such as preening/touching/proximity.

I think a lot of new PUA make the mistake of constantly seeking the end result. Be in the moment and be casual; girls will pick up on it and be more comfortable around you.
