Bad mood = game killer. Definitely messes up mine. Neither of those responses is good, though the first one is better. You'd better just apologize, and explain that you told your mate but didn't expect him to run his mouth, and had a go at him for that. Don't even bring up the "defend ya" comment.

I've had a bad knack for loose lips, a good apology should recover you. Make it a good one, especially if she specifically asked to keep it a secret. She doesn't sound that pissed but you definitely fucked up, mate.

Ask her how she feels first. It acknowledges her feelings and shows that you care.

You have to be adults about it. You should calmly do it in person or call her. First remind her of the fun you two have together and then tell her the truth(that you didn't tell) and then finish it off with a "I am not going to try to convince you to believe me" and then it is all up to her after that. Kinda sucks about your situation.
