So is kiss closing absolutely essential on the first date?

Will they loose interest if not?

Yeah basically.

It's not essential in the sense that you can get a girl without kissing her on the first date. It is essential in the sense that if you want to consistently get girls, you better start kissing them on the first date.

So kiss her.

Had a first date with a girl last week, kissed her under around 2hours into it, she then said to me later that if I hadn't have made the first move, she wouldn't have and would've just assumed I wasn't interested (i.e friend-zone + probably no 2nd date)

I agree. One of my gf's once told me she was kind of indifferent about me until I kissed her on the first date. She told me the confidence was a big turn-on.
