In the first series I noticed that he was using technique that was terrible and would never work. After the first series, it began to have some elements that I recognised. I can't help but feel that the actor researched the role a little more seriously when he realised that the role would be around for a while!

I'd also like to ad that a Neg is in now designed to lower a girls self esteem. A lot of guys think it is and than don't understand why girls like to be treated like crap...it's not that they like to be treated poorly, they're just attracting the ones that do.

A neg is much more complicated than that. It's actually an egoic response. A person is constantly basing who they are on how people treat and respond to them, that is the purpose of the ego, to establish one's identity through your interactions with others. When a neg is given, a person's conscious mind subsides and the ego takes over. Either the ego will take the neg as an indicator of one's status, or the ego will take it as a false assessment of one's status. So a person will therefore either accept that they are lower status, or try to prove that they are not. Either result is beneficial to a pua.

The problem with negs is that ego can also view them as personal attacks, in which case the ego will also take control, but this time with the intent to respond in kind to such a person attack. And the ego is a source of great emotion and passion, and must be dealt with carefully.

The ego is a very powerful thing, as it can supersede a person's consciousness and better judgement. If you learn how to pander to a person's ego, you can get them to do nearly anything. A lot of pua is based on ego manipulation, but is not explained as such.

Give the writing staff credit, because they came up with some crazy routines. The Lorenzo Von Matterhorn? Look it up, hilarious. Neil Patrick harris is one of the funniest people on tv, but yeah it isn't something you should actually try. That character is supposed to be an exaggeration of the playboy for the sake of comedy. I mean, Barney Stinson also cheered for the Empire in Star Wars and thought they were the good guys, which is also funny, but kinda reminds us that he is a caricature.

Funny thing is though, Neil Patrick Harrison plays Barney, this huge ladies man, but in real life he is gay.

Yeah I know...I was like wut? when I found out. Shows how great an actor he is.

So what if a man is insulted? I mean us guys are sometimes sensitive too. Even when friends r joking around i think our ego misconstrudes some of these things. Thats why i'm trying my best to let an negativity or put downs not effect me, knowing it's the other persons problem not mine. How do you guys deal with this?

That's you being aware of your ego. Awareness of your ego is the only way to control it, but it is very difficult because it is such a prevalent part of your psychology, that it will often reemerge in new and different ways when you try to control it. But it is very good to keep your ego under control. But you can't expect others to do the same. You just have to accept them as they are, egoism and all.
