my buddy is going to have a couple house partys to celberate his new place. What kind of techniques would work the best and what not?

Simple, be the life of the party. People (girls) come to a party to have fun. If you ARE the party, girls will come to YOU. It's easy isn't it? And if you are surrounded by many girls, you automatically have social proof, pre-selection and many more traits that come with being the life of the party.

only thing I would add: Make sure if you are drinking that you can control yourself when your drunk.

Basically know your limits and don't get fucked up. If you do you won't be able to control wtf you're saying or doing.

Be the life of the party before the drinking. If you have AFC friends, show up alone and meet them there. The energy has to be yours and you have to really want to be there. Chat everyone up, the guys first, girls later. Go with the intention of not drinking, tell others that you aren't drinking when they offer, that way when you're ready to have a drink later on, you'll still be in control and your energy/presence won't suffer. I'm not against drinking if you do it in moderation and it improves your game (works for me).

For me drinking improves my game. It also makes it easier for you to 'blend in' with the overall SPAM of the party and the other people who are drinking. So I would drink a bit, but keep it at no more than 5 beers, more than that usually decreases my game (like last night).

Sure, but this is the general, basic advice everyone gets. I'll go slightly more in dept for you for the perfect party.
First, if your friend is going to throw a house party, you might wanna check the guys and girls who are coming to the party on facebook and discuss them with your friend. It's a sort of preparation. Then you already know some things about those people so it that you might chat more easily with them, it also gives you a good vibe checking out the hot babes who are coming and it's just fun to do it.
Secondly, at the party, be there as first to help him with the preparation, the drinks, go buy alcohol with him and install the music installation. Now you've become one of the "party leaders", cuz you helped organising, it gives you also a good feeling of responsability and confidence, and again, it just gives you a very good vibe. Again you will have sonething to talk about, and it's cool to be one of the party managers (and girls will like that as well).
As you are the first one on the party along with your buddy, you can also greet the first guests and talk with them. Since there are a few people it will create a sort of bond.
When more guests are coming, you can greet them all. It's a lot more easier to start socialising when you start with a small group who gets larger, than if you arrive at a party when everybody is already there, drunk, unable to talk, or whatever, without having the possibility to bond with the people.
Now you know most of the people, you can start talking to everyone, and voila, the game is on!

There are some other things what you can do to DHV or to create a big social value in the group:

1) if you are throwing a relativly large party, you can arrange with your other buddies who help organizing the party to wear the same clothes/ outfit. People will wonder why you are dressed the same and then you can say "yeah we host this party". it would be even better if you guys would order the same collored t-shirts with a self designed print or whatever which says "party hoster ____ (your name)". That is realy cool.

2) As one of the party managers, organise drinking games or other likewise random stuff. It makes you realy cool and in control.

3) if you are a dj and you have the stuff, be the dj of the party. From my own experiences I say to you that everyone will notice you and girls might approach you. A guy who is a dj is something to brag about for girls.
