Whenever I'm put in that situation I like to just smile and wink. However, another good strategy would be to tease the friend doing the questioning, such as 'no no no,, you have it all wrong... I really have a thing for you!' This should get a laugh and kill the tense questioning situation.

Hope this helps.

You can always blow it out of proportion too. I like that to kill tension. In your case, (if it's early in the conversation) I could see myself going with: " Totaly! This is the most earth shatering 12 min conversation I've had all my life. I think I found my soulmate."

Or a defacto way of going at it would be answering with a question. heck you might also mix it with flipping the situation: " Are you trying to tell me you like me? "

Another way, that requires a bit more inner game I guess, would be to be honest and unapolegetic about it: " Not sure yet, maybe I will. I don't know much about her yet besides the fact that she's interesting and attractive. So she has my interest, we'll see later if I like her."

Game on

I think I'd say to her friend

"Are you into her too? Wooah okay, Arm wrestle for her.."

If she says "No"

Just say, "Okay, thumb war, but that's my last offer"

wink too

I like this one, and it sounds like something I would say. Thank you.

I like the first things you did, blowing it out of proportion or flipping the question back onto the friend. I don't like the last part because you are being too literal with her question and might come off as, "Well okay.....". ;P

There is a situation and time for everything. Also remember that you are not necessarly trying to 'frazzle-dazzle' the friend. You are more trying to confort the friend that you are a good guy and won't turn up to be a duchebag to her friend. I also like being direct and unapolegetic. That's a very manly trait. But like I said, it needs more inner game. It's good to somewhat cocky in your responses, but you can't always be cocky. Cocky is a spice, it shoudn't be all that you taste.

Nice to see it fits your style. Tailor it to your personality and you are golden.

Cheers!

Lol, I love that analogy with cocky being a spice. I will be stealing that! I agree though, straight forward and unapologetic! I guess it also depends on how manly someone is trying to be, I don't necessarily have the personality or disposition that comes off as the toughest son of a bitch on the planet. I'll label myself a 6'2" dandy. ;-D

It's definitely a tough situation to be put in. Usually the situation presents itself when the target is not in the area and cannot hear the conversation, in which case things are a little bit easier to handle and the pressure isn't on as much to come up with a good answer.

If the target isn't there, you can respond with pretty much anything. The girl is almost certainly asking you because either:

a) Your game has worked and the target is interested in you. (Most often the case)
or
b) You have come on too strong and the group is suspicious that you are into the girl. (Not really that big of a deal, definitely fixable)

Some of the other posts suggest good ways to deal with the situation. I would loosen some of the tension with some humour, personally, exactly as some of the other posts said. Joke that you are in love with the target, or confess your attraction to the random girl who never talks, or say you are devoted to some random girl that walks by. Make them laugh.

Don't give a definitive 'yes' or 'no' answer. Saying yes may hinder your success with the target based on the 'forbidden fruit' syndrome (people want what they can't have, but as soon as they can have it, it's old news). Flat out saying no may discourage the target completely and she may just give up or lose interest. I would keep it as a 'mysterious' and vague response that could go both ways. Another poster suggested smiling and winking, which leans more towards 'yes' but still may imply 'who knows'. You could say "we'll see how things go" or "why, are you making sure I'm not committed?". Something humourous and light to break up the tension and leave the group without a straight answer.
