I tend to like Bruce's quotes and he said something that really stuck with me and got me thinking about the community in general. That you shouldn't commit to one style of doing things....
Bruce Lee ~ "Styles tend to not only separate men - because they have their own doctrines and then the doctrine became the gospel truth that you cannot change. But if you do not have a style, if you just say: Well, here I am as a human being, how can I express myself totally and completely? Now, that way you won't create a style, because style is a crystallization. That way, it's a process of continuing growth. "
Bruce is right, the interpretation is wrong though... In understanding that concept he speaks you need to commit to one thing 1st, from that your natural growth will go into other areas.
The commitment to one style only serves as a foundation to everything you do, put in martial arts terms; he learned Wing Chun thoroughly before he went into other martial arts. So to say don't commit ONLY shows impatience. On the flip-side, he saying don't stick with one thing once your done your growth because that will only stagnate you.
