We have all been there. We are with a girl who we are interested in, talking about general stuff. The conversation escalates gradually bit by bit, and she pops the classic question: examples include "So are you seeing anyone at the moment?", "How is Uni? I bet you have a few girls up there right?" and "So are you interested in anyone at the moment?".

You dont want to say Yes because that may hinder your chances with this girl. Saying No, however, may make you seem unwanted (?).

Any answers you guys use?

Be honest, say there are a couple girls I am interested but I dont want to fully commit to anything because I don't want to be in a relationship and then later dread it because I am stuck.

i say use it as an opportunity to be the 'irresistible asshole'! just say oh yea loads but say it playfully so your not SPAM anything and its kind of a neg at the same time.

Yeah, same as Warden. I'm usually pretty honest and open with girls, but when it comes to girls (either current or exs) it's just better to go into "politician mode" and avoid the question.

Something like "oh yeah, they all love me, can you blame them?" in a cheeky tone avoids the question and is a little bit teasy, confident and is, in my opinion, the best way to go about this sort of thing!

I totally agree. Be funny and playful. However, some of the girls may pursue this question anyway. It's happened a couple times. Example:

HB: So are you talking to or seeing other women?
Me: Oh yeah, my phone's always blowing up with ALL the women I see.
HB: Haha, that's funny. But seriously, are you?
Me: I'm talking to a couple other girls, but nothing serious.

What follows usually is she will shrug it off, or will have a question like, "So.. how serious is nothing serious? haha" Then you say something like, "Well you're just all kinds of nosy, aren't you? Haha, actually just went on a date with a girl last week and..." Shows you're confident talking about this, you're not hiding anything, and you're still playful with her. Works for me!

not rely once you do it right and make it sound funny. like seriously your out having a good time there is no need to be totally serious. just make her laugh and all will be fine

The perfect answer should be vague challenger her to WORK for your exclusivity.. but don't allow her to lead the conversation.. you must change topics upon answering..

I more enjoy & prefer getting to know interesting people right now, but certainly open to dating the right woman comes along... by the way I was thinking of getting a puppy, do you have or like pets?

just say something really ambiguous,

there is this cute girl I talk to from time to time, I have a huge crush on that one

*then smile at her look in her eyes and put your hand on her shoulder for a second*,

if she starts getting all playful and trying to pry out the answer, or get you to say its her, just don't give her the answer, and if she is insinuating it is her, just keep saying, it may or may not be you, who knows?

From what I recall the last couple times I was asked this I lent in a little closer and said slowly with a fairly serious tone "Why do you ask?" because let's be fair, there's usually going to be only one reason they're asking. Now they might then shrug it off/laugh it off as it just being a general question like "what do you do?" etc, but if they also respond with a fairly serious tone (also watch out for IOI's at this point, if she's interested she'll be flinging them like a monkey flings it's poop) then I say just go for broke and lean in, you know situationally permitting (bit awkward if you do it on a bus for example). I think this way can cut allot of BS out.

I can see argument for some of the other suggestions people have put down but this has pretty much always worked for me.
