Since its a large social circle and you are likely to see each other occasionally, I would recommend for "Opinion Openers" about some event happening in your college. Other ways to talk to a girl would be in library, cafes, or any other place where you can 'spontaneously' start a conversation (or make it look that way). You can do a Direct Approach too but there's a risk that you look needy and your reputation can get spoiled if you get rejected in front of other girls.
As for numbers, my personal experience is that its more of a patience game. Don't push hard for numbers on the first approach, if you are likely to see her every day (which is most likely the case since its a college). If not, go for it if you are reasonably sure that she's into you. The better way to get a number will be to ask her *on some event/for studying together/for hanging out together at some place* next time so that it doesn't look like you are hitting on her. Start having conversations with people in general and then see where you can go with it. _________________ Don't get confused by my username. I am not Bald.
