Today however I was at the drug store getting something to stop my heels blistering from my new $300.00 shoes (which I brought to improve my image). A HB7 walks up to the counter as I am talking to the assistant and part hears our conversation. When the assistant walks away to get an item for me the 7 looks around and gives me a quick smile, bang, I immediately think this is it and I have a split second to take action. So here it goes.
Me: What do you think? I just bought these $300 Italian shoes which look awsome, but they gave me blisters, do you think I should put up with the pain or go for something else?
HB7: It depends on how much you like the shoes? (Smiling)
Me: I actually do like them, that’s why I bought them.
HB7: Well I would put up with the pain.
...silence then the assistant with me interrupts and we continue from before. Now my problem is that how should I have kept the dialog going with the HB and I actually had no idea how to transition from the opener in a situation like that?

Bearing in mind that cocky/funny is my default setting I would have gone with
Me: You'd put up with the pain? OMG, you're not some kind of crazy sado-masochist are you? I've heard about you guys, I need to watch myself now"
HB7: Laughs or remonstrates "No, I'm not like that!"
Me: Thank god for that! (you could get the assistant involved if they'd heard your interaction, look at them, pull a relieved face or something). [Going back to the HB7] So what's going on?

The direction I'd take the conversation would be:
- You would, huh? You're pretty vain, you know that. I'll go ask someone who likes themself. (cocky, do it with a smile and it's funny too)
- bla bal
- Listen, I'm got to run right now, but I got to come back again and shop for a belt that matches these shoes, and you look like you got a good taste. What would be the best way to stay in touch with you? _________________ This game is automatic. You give it to 'em one time, they come back like addicts.

Let her figure that out for her self or it just looks like you are trying to impress her. _________________ I'd rather go out swinging than strike out looking.
A lifestyle is a terrible thing to waste.
What I say when I see her is what I'll say.
