I have a few techniques that I like to do.

Pen and paper: It's my belief that, if you physically write down what you want to fix or change in your life, it bears more meaning. If you type it, you're already programmed to know where the keys are and any mistake is easily fixed by going back. When you write it; you think a little harder about what you want to say and how you want to write it. This way; the more you think on it, the more you realize certain things.

I write things down daily. Whether or not they're something I did when I went out in order to figure out where I went wrong (or even what I did right,) all the way to the things I'd like to improve on and change. Say I'm at the store and see a beautiful woman... She smiles at me, I smile back and keep walking. I jot that down and put my resolution after it. "Next time, I'm going to just say hi. What's the worst that can happen? If anything, I'll take her to coffee after she meets me!" Positive thinking promotes positive attitude and builds confidence.

Motivational quotes: Again I don't suggest JUST reading them off of the internet. However, it is a positive vibe still. The more you read (especially out loud) the more you can feel better about yourself. Find a few good ones and share them somehow. I like to write mine down and take a look back every now and then. I write down the ones that best suit me and any of my situations.

Movies: It's weird but it works for me. Let's take, for example, the movie I most recently watched that inspired me to get out and enjoy life even more. The Art of Travel. It's a man who starts off in the worst kind of ways - at his wedding with his cheating wife and his best friend, the man she cheated on him with. Naturally he knows and shuts down the wedding in a fantastic manner mind you. He takes off on his honeymoon in which he goes SOLO since he's not getting married anymore. From there he meets random people, goes out to random bars and just enjoys life for what he has now, rather than bringing himself down for what he just lost. Since I like travel and most men can relate to a situation like him; that movie really made me think "well... Why can't I just be like that guy? He did fine!" Therefore - positive thinking! I went to the store after watching that movie and feeling good and was even approached by a female with a keen eye for detail. She said "it's not normal that you see someone with such a friendly smile, walking around such a depressing place!" Since all the employees seem to hate life at this store and every customer who's in a hurry to get in and get out, it was nice for her to see someone who doesn't appear to be an asshole.

and lastly self-motivational speeches: Yes I use them. I look myself in the mirror and tell myself "you're going to go out and talk to at least 5 women today" or I'll go as far as saying "you'll get a phone number from the girl you want it from the most today and nothing will stop you!" I repeat this until I'm feeling better about myself and believe what I'm saying. Naturally I do a few exercises before I go out for the night just to get the blood flowing too. All of these things that are natural "feel goods" and promote positive attitudes. Women notice this and they act on it. If you go to the bar feeling shitty, looking shitty, or just like you downright hate yourself; no woman is going to act positively on that and even if you don't notice it yourself and THINK you're completely positive, since you don't come off that way and you get shot down, it's going to just lower your confidence more and more.

Eat, Think, Sleep, Feel, BE positive.

If a guy came up to you and said " Hey I would like to improve my physique. What do I do? ". How would you respond?

The above poster took care of a lot of the mental activities you can do to push yourself. Things like saying a thousand times a day " I am a very confident man "; and those things work.

However; you have to be aware that like working out, you will not results for at least a couple weeks with consistency. You're not going to do 100 sit-ups for one day and then wake up the next day and have amazing abs. It takes consistency and dedication. And even then it'll take 3 months before you have any noticeable results.

Developing your level of self confidence with the tactics described by the above poster is just like performing workouts. They are things you would have to do every single day without skipping a day for a while before you actually see a change that matters.

I personally believe the easiest way to raise your level of self confidence is to step outside of your comfort zone. Get rejected, get embarrassed and you'll heal back emotionally stronger than you were before.

All in all; it takes work. There is no way to go from level 1 to level 10 in 24 hours. Set out on a YEAR LONG mission to improve your confidence and be willing to do whatever it takes.. CONSISTENTLY.

the pen and paper is a way i stay calm and collected with the struggles of my life. its defiantly a great way to stay focused on your goals. keep a journal.

i dont use motivational quotes or speeches, as much as i should but i do use them from time to time. when im having a bad day or something. i do however say "im one sexy guy" every time i look at myself in a mirror . whether its true or not i believe im truly blessed. this is more of an affirmation.

affirmations is another that wasn't mentioned but it could be considered the same as motivational quotes or speeches. example: "i am the best" " "i am the best boyfriend" "i love my job" "i love not smoking" try to be positive and repeat these things to yourself. make some that fit you. wana become better with women? say this over and over every day when you wake up " i am great with women"

i like looking to movies for motivation, movies like Pursuit of Happiness. movies based on true events, etc are great to watch.
Want that playa life-style? watch crazy stupid love.
want to learn karate or martial arts? watch the matrix.
movies are great for motivation. but you need to take action.

my friend who was really big into skateboarding would always watch youtube clips of pro skateboarders. that would get him pumped up to go out to skate and try new things.

also theres that newbie mission posted on the general question thread. try doing that.

one last tip. the more you do something the more confident you become. no one is straight confident from the get-go(gecko?), it takes time and practice, in all aspects of life.

First figure out WHY you're lacking self confidence... Then fix it.

You post a generic question. You get a generic answer.

Maybe you need to start taking more risks?

Maybe you need to work on your self image?

Maybe you don't even know what self confidence is?

Thank you Eddie for mentioning the consistency. I got so in tune with everything I was typing, that I forgot to mention that it should be part of a daily routine, much like the gym. He's completely correct on that. If you look in my desk, at all of the papers I've jotted notes on, you'll probably see the equivalent of a book between sticky notes, and scrap paper. I've wrote "next time, I'm just going in the second I feel the urge" probably 30-40 times... ALONE! All because I would choke with approach anxiety. Eventually, to see results (in this case, to stop writing it,) I finally listened to myself.

also to Hint for bringing in the affirmations. The more you tell yourself that you ARE the man, the more you're going to believe it. I still have pre-drinks before I hit the town, but during this pre-drinking session, that's when I'll go over my whole list. Telling myself "tonight, I WILL get that hot girls number." Rather than "I wonder if the bar will be packed full of hot girls again" or "what should I say tonight?" I just tell myself that, no matter the case, I'm getting a phone number from whichever girl I consider "that hot girl."

Does it always work for me? No. I sometimes still get caught up in the moment and look past a lot of the open signs of interest, and continue enjoying myself until the nights end without asking. Sometimes I get rejected. It happens. I'm still having fun while I'm doing my pick up, so the rejection doesn't even remove the smile off my face. I just move along... There's usually ALWAYS another "that hot girl" right around the corner.

Great input guys, and again GNR, it will take some time. Like anything - keep pushing.
