So theres this girl at my college that I hang out with all the time, she's probably my best friend here (and most likely vice versa). We also have sex alot. Basically, she is my girlfriend except it's not official (I want her to be my gf, but I'm not sure how to bring it up, so i'm just letting things go at their own pace.)


Here's the deal. Her birthday is the 12th, Valentine's day is the 14th, my bday is the 18th. So I feel the need to do something for her just in case she does something for me. So, do I buy her a gift for her bday and valentines day, or just one? What do i do?

Right now I'm thinking about getting reservations at a semi-fancy restaurant for Valentine's day and just tell her : "Keep your schedule clear on Thursday. I got us reservations at xxx to celebrate our birthdays. It's on me."

I just don't want to come off as too boyfriendy since our relationship is undefined at the moment. What would you do here?

I would take her out to eat for her birthday on the 12th, buy her something pretty but not expensive and tell her "you should be my gf". that works. Then on valentines day do something fun and romantic.

On valentines day im buying my gf a card, a single rose, taking her out to eat and then to the movies. sound good?

I think something fun you could do is give her a "present for her birthday" in it says your coming on a date with me on valentines,or whatever.Saves some money and also build C&F

There is a trick used by salesmen that is relevant here. Back in the 1950's or whenever home refridgeraters were new, door to door salesmen were tasked with getting them into the homes of the masses. Instead of selling a housewife on the intimidating idea of putting an entire gigantic refridgerater in the middle of their kitchen that wasn't built for it, they did this instead: "You do like the icemaker, don't you. Imagine entertaining your family and friends with fresh ice from your icemaker in the cocktails." You sell them on the small ideas, and the big idea sells itself.

For your situation, Grind, maybe you should playfully tell her that she is going to be your girlfriend for the rest of the night, and you two are going to do what boyfriend and girlfriend do. Make it the most romantic night of her life (and yours). Drive around together and "park". Maybe do a picnic or go to a spa together. Sip wine together. Get candles for your bedroom and bathroom. Take a bath together in candlelight.

...Then it's back to normal. Keep your distance for a few days afterward so she really feels the emotions that come with having that level of intimacy with you because she misses it. Then if you can tell it is working, all you have to do is 2 steps forward, 1 step backwards. Keep pulling strings, pushing buttons, and opening doors for her (not literally). Good luck!!!
