On one hand it seems too soft.
But I like it because it establishes a sexual dynamic and seems dominant.
This is surely pretty basic, so what's the consensus?

It really depends on the women. Young girls who're looking for that love connection, will often be happy when a man calls her baby. But older women, or women who're more mature, will often not like being called baby, but that's not always true. I've called many young and older women baby before and it doesn't seem to case any problems.
