Is it possible to tell a story without congruence (it never happened to you) if you're a really expressive person?

Let's forget for a moment that it is lying... That's not the question.

Have you ever done this?

I've been researching story telling myself. The best thing I have found is to go over the basic ideas again and again. Once it is second nature to you it will be more congruent (this is where I am at) and won't really matter if it is true or not.

If you've heard war stories from someone who is good at telling stories, they are vivid, spectacular and entertaining. Does it matter that every time pa tells the story the number of Germans he kills goes up? No, all that matters is they are sharing a part of their life in an interesting way. Some parts are certainly true and others may be embellished.

Outright lying, no, but I did stretch the truth a few times. Maybe you should try different things, or travel around, to make yourself more interesting and actually have stories to tell. Thing is, if you come across a girl who can smell bullshit like a hound you're pretty much screwed
