I wouldn't say you handled it badly, but you could have handled it better here's how I handle flakes its worked like a charm every time.
Specific incident
Her: hey I'm really tired from the gym I don't think I can make it out. (Weak ass excuse)
Me: no worries friend of mine has a fight tonight in vegas my friends are twisting my arm pretty hard to come check it out.

From there she tried to shit test me just for her own satisfaction, but I clearly had the upper hand and got sick of talking to her when there's clearly no end product anymore so I quit answering and she still texted me a few more times.

I think you're good, but if its a 1st date I wouldn't push her too hard to have the date at her place as she might get uncomfortable with that idea and flake on you. However now if she replies I'd say don't answer her she's leaving you hanging, but you seem quick to answer her back let her wonder a bit. However if I'm talking to a girl and she doesn't reply I usually use the I'm divorcing you routine.

Set a day and time, but if that doesn't work Just ask her what her schedule looks like if she gives you a couple options pick a day and time that works with your schedule that you're gonna be in town anyway. Normally I wouldn't advise that, but you may have to bend a bit if she's going to school. There's nothing wrong with setting up something that fits her schedule just don't be a pushover.

You're dealing with a girl in another state, who doesn't have her own place, with a tight schedule. You probably won't be able to do a really good date, just because of time. So even drinks or dinner could be good, but probably not good enough to get her to invest alot to get her to drive next time. Your investing more to see her. If she had her own place and you 2 had a free weekend that you could spend together where you do a ton, fuck, and connect then yeah, she might be willing to make the drive and continue things.

Naw man as a rule you don't usually offer another day right after a flake. What you said sounds good, but I'd just say ok no worries or not reply at all leave her wondering let her come to you. Plus if you offer that and she is playing a game and has no intention of meeting up you're gonna be wondering about it all week and possibly for nothing. You've put effort in now its her turn to put some in.

No offense, but that reason is bs and even if it's 100% true, if I think so, odds are she does too. No one does all that for a chick just because they're going to happen to be in their town. And realistically, from this girls logistics and living situation, the date isn't going to end in sex. So are you going to happen to be in her town for the 2nd date? The 3rd?

There's a reason people advise against LDR, and starting long distance dating with a chick this busy is already accepting problems and obstacles. Whenever you're in her town, hit up a bar and fuck someone else. Much better than being the guy who takes a chick to dinner when she isn't going to drive to your state for a 2nd date.
