Hi everyone,

I'm meeting a girl this Saturday night for drinks. I'm assuming it's my job to pick the spot (which is fine).

My main goal is two-fold: (1) not solely pay for a big expensive bar bill, and (2) not have the girl just get drunk on my dime and then leave without so much as a hug good-bye (followed by never answering my calls or texts).
I don't mind paying if the ends will justify the means, but I just don't want to get used.

Or, inversely: (1) to either solely pay a small bar bill or split the bill with her, and (2) hook-up with her.

So, I found a great spot that does a very good 2 hour happy hour from like 7-9pm.

Questions:
1) Is a first date at a bar a bad idea?
2) Is a happy hour bar date a bad idea?
3) Any way I can get her to chip in?

Hey mate I'd say foot the bill for your 1st date, but us your discretion. If she's getting loaded on your 1st date just because she thinks its on you well then you know as well as I do that's not someone you wanna see again because you're just being used. I'd personally tend to avoid a happy hour date unless you're going specifically for drinks then trying to get her back home. I prefer a place with a menu you can get drinks and a bite to eat make the date a bit longer if that's what you want. When it comes time to pay the bill if the date went well foot the bill if she's a bitch, you don't wanna see her again, she used you for free drinks. Make her pay her part.

i did a bar date the other week after hearing a story from online

where i went there was a couch which we sat at

this allows you to sit together and allows you to watch the body language as to if she is sitting towards you or away from you

You should buy the first round
it is then polite for her to buy the next
if she doesnt i wouldnt be having more than 2 drinks there

from there we went down the street for gelato

take her to a lounge not a bar, if you have enough dates you will eventually figure out why this works so much better.

Take her to a place you can afford, dont be cheap, most attractive girls hate cheap men.

2) Is a happy hour bar date a bad idea? <- absolutely not. It's cheaper.
3) Any way I can get her to chip in? <- Just eat the tab. Unless she insists on paying. Don't ask her to chip in though. Happy hour shouldn't run you too deep down the hole. Your focus is to relax and get tipsy... not wasted.
