Anyone who's seen the season 2 episode of Bob's Burgers (unfortunately I couldn't find the clip) where Dr. Yap (a perverse, awkward Asian dentist) takes pickup advice from the fictitious Prince of Persuasia PU instructional video.

The steps are outlined as follows:

Step One: Trap Your Princess – physically corner her in a room and eventually, in your life.

Step Two: Insult Your Princess – insult her face, her body, her brain, her car. The lower her self-esteem, the higher your chances bro. It’s been biologically proven, by me.

Step Three: Brag – not lying, but close. Make up a story of how you single-handedly murdered a wild animal. Your story is going to release a hormone deep inside her body called “insatia.” It makes women ovulate for sex!


Step 1 being akin to isolating your target

Step 2 being akin to negging

Step 3 being akin to DHVing 'techniques' such as stories or anecdotes that infer you possess alpha-like qualities


Most pickup does not work, these charlatans simply hijacked evolutionary theory and contorted it to sell to guys' insecurities. In other words they're simply perpetuating insecurity, not helping guys feel more secure in themselves (which, incidentally there is no quick fix for, but can be resolved by working on yourself - a concept nobody can patent and sell).

Anyway, this fictitious instructional video, as ridiculous as it looks lampoons PUA in one foul swoop (although in a very generalized way). My 'game' got better once I disbanded from using these silly techniques and instead learned how to develop my core confidence.

you're right! but i found these game techniques helpful at first when i hadnt confidence to pursuit girls, but after that and now when i developed my own game its going better than ever and i owe that to these PUA rutines and openers

It's true that a lot of people selling PUA "techniques" are relying on (and re-enforcing) guys insecurities to sell stuff.

If you're on any of the mailing lists for their "wares" you can see how a lot of them use very negative language when describing how you are supposedly feeling in hypothetical situations. I would describe it as NLP used for evil.

In amongst all the crap, are a few gems. These gems however, can be found as you have guessed; simply by working on yourself, and becoming the man you want to be. ie: Financially secure, fit, healthy, social. Once you have done that, finding a girl is straightforward; as "approach anxiety" no longer exists for you, and neither do a lot of other issues.

But, most people want a quick fix... So the snake-oil will keep on selling!
