The whole thing is an over-blown witch hunt. Unfortunately, PUA doesn't play well in the mainstream media. The people demonizing the community are people who haven't had any experience with the non-commercial side (i.e. the forums).
The ridiculous advertising from the commercial side (like the banner ads on this site) really doesn't help the situation.
However, Spring, I encourage you to read the forums and judge for yourself. Does this place look like a den of rapists to you?
EDIT: Here's a painfully inaccurate article about the pick-up community to drive my point home:

Quote:
PUAs are nearly exclusively men focused on soliciting women for the purposes of sex without resorting to payment. The PUA world applies algorithms, testing and feedback, and gamification to human interaction, turning women into not just sexual objects but essentially treating that cisgendered biological configuration as a Turing-complete machine in which specifying the right sequence of inputs results in access to specific ports and protocols.
In this case, the vagina is typically the desired port, with other orifices of interest as well..."
It just gets worse from there.
