| Of all forms of physical peacocking, by far the best, is a lean muscular build. I have been told by several girls who are good friends (old FBs that live in other states now) that I'm getting "too big" at my current size (ironically i was pretty flattered, since I've dropped %BF and gained a lot of lean mass since the last time they fucked me). That said, they still want to hook up.
Point being, even if girls claims you're "too muscular", they'll still rail you at the drop of a hat if you're able to turn them on. Unless you're on the gear (anabolics), it's pretty much impossible to become too muscular for women's tastes.
Here's the catch. Being really built works WONDERS for social proof. Other guys treat you with a lot more respect, and AMOGs tend to try to befriend you instead of ignoring you. Douchebags and assholes become a non-issue (I have never been insulted by a man at a bar or a club, in my entire life). When women see other high value men treating you with respect, it immediately draws them to you. As gay as it sounds, past a certain point, your muscles will start to impress guys more than girls, and when girls see you impressing other guys, they'll be attracted to you. Finally, if you are dating a girl, being large (but level headed. None of that roid rage bs) makes you an appealing "protector", and girls love it.
Finally, your attitude toward fitness is flawed. I have trained almost every day for the past 7 years, and it works wonders for my health, self esteem, and emotional well being. My life is full of stress. Grad school, work, relationships, etc. The gym is the one place I can escape to any time of day and focus on something other than all the shit making my life a pain in the ass, and to feel good about something real (as opposed to escaping through video games or movies). So even when your relationships are shit, work sucks, and school is overwhelming, having a consistent fitness routine maintains an element of stability in your life even when everything else seems to be disordered. Your fitness is the one thing you have almost full control over, and you can do anything a human body is capable of, given dedication and time. That's really not the case in many aspects of life. At the same time, being physically fit and healthy is hugely important, at least as important as any other major part of your life, and the stability you find in a fitness routine helps put you back on your feet and bring the other things in your life back in to order.
If getting built fast is all you care about, and you're not worried about health consequences, there are shortcuts. You could put on about 30 pounds of muscle in less than 4 months with some major dedication, the right diet, and a little help from mr. Dbol and Mrs. Winstrol. I strongly advise against it though, since steroids fuck your heart up permanently, and beat the shit out of your liver/kidneys.
If you eat right, supplement right (creatine+whey) and lift 4 days a week, you could look quite fit in just a year though.
