guys, there shouldn't be any conflict on these forums. we're here to learn how to embody the player lifestyle, not bicker about who has better advice. you must see how ironic that is.
zmbcm, if you don't think its useful to take tips from robert downey jr, dont post on this thread. it is pessimistic, and its also irrelevant.
paramount, regardless of how you feel about him, you don't actually need to go around saying it. odds are he wouldn't have posted again anyway, but by chastising him for his negativity you just caused more.
at any rate, i'd like to try to point out that going around defending your ego all the time isn't going to get you anywhere and thats exactly what makes tony stark's arrogance work. sure his ego is overblown, grandiose and sometimes just plain rude. but he rarely if ever tries to defend it, and thats why its infallible. take his rival justin hammer for instance. both of them are cocky, arrogant, rich, and in the same line of business. but stark takes himself WAYYY less seriously, and is even self depreciating at points, whereas hammer gets pissy at the smallest little things. if he hadn't taken himself so seriously, he would realize he's a goddamn billionaire and stop being jealous of stark and just enjoy it. likewise, if you two stop bickering for long enough i'm sure you'll realize your player lifestyle is just something worth enjoying instead of arguing over who's got the higher horse. shibby?
There's nothing pessimistic or irrelevant about pointing out that taking life advice from a movie character might not be the best idea. Social situations don't play out the way someone writes them out on a movie script. Many (in fact, most) people are not genius playboy billionaires. I maintain that an average guy acting like Tony Stark will be highly disliked by most.
This is a world where appearing smart is more important than actually being smart. Where power is given to those who just SEEM powerful, rather than those who would use it best. Its also a world that takes its cues from cinema; How many social conventions / stereotypes do you know that commonly appear in movies? In such a media oriented society, i guarantee most people learn what kinds of people there are and how to treat them from movies. Whether or not he's fictional i still think its a good idea to take hints from him. If you don't, (i'll repeat this) YOUR COMMENTS ARE IRRELEVANT TO THIS THREAD.
