I'm still reading posts regarding egos and them being bad. Da fuark!?

It seems this turned into a different question... What is ego?

Your ego is your false self. It isn't a bad thing.

It is bad if you think your ego is who you really are. You aren't. It is just a character you play, your method for interacting with everyone elses egos.

It's the only way you CAN communicate with others, because 99% of the world thinks they ARE their egos.

Whether that role be someone who is successful with women, an expert in Eckhart Tolle, a nice person, a dickhead, an IT specialist...

These are all identities that aren't who you truly are. They are constructs created in your mind.

Nothing wrong with that, and having an ego... Unless you IDENTIFY with it.

Just realize it isn't the REAL you. It is the false self.
Yes I made a whole 'nother thread for this. The brahs need to be aware.

Did you know that when you think you are being alpha by not having an ego, that is actually your "alpha ego" at play?

I bet you didn't.

Everyone has an ego. Actually, everyone has multiple egos. Just depends on the environment and you decide which one to use.

EDIT: Only thing I have trouble grasping is why must an ego be your false self? If you are head at a IT department you probably do have an IT ego, why must it be labeled as your false self. I think the more appropriate term would be to identify it as being one of your many characteristics...? But then if you're an asshole then yeah I could see why you would want to label it as your false self.... Discuss!

EDIT2: If you are going to identify all your egos as your false self... then what identifies as your true self???

Nice Post!

Of course we all have egos... LOL You even mentioned this with me on a separate thread. The point is if your ego is owning you and you truly lose grasp of who you are in an effort to validate yourself for others it's a bad thing. I agree with about everything you say but if you are being a false self you aren't doing what YOU want to do... You are living within your own personal life integrity.

You don't work out and lose weight to get the girl next door, you do it to better yourself. You do things to better yourself for you not for other people. If not you end up with a job you didn't want, with a girl you didn't want, and a house you didn't want. You need to do what is best for you, and not do what is best for someone else... that sounds selfish but what I mean is if you want a wife and kids fine but don't do it simply because your parents think it's best for you. Don't become a doctor to make mom and dad proud, do it for you.

Don't act a certain way so you can be cool... just learn to be fucking cool.

Someone with high self-esteem is in firm control of his ego, but this doesn't mean his ego doesn't grasp him once in a while. Of course I'm still influenced by my ego here and there, how could I not be, the point is to know when I'm doing stuff for me or for others so that I can always do what's best for me in the long run.

Your ego can be used for good, no doubt, just be careful when you begin to do shit to impress everyone but yourself then you'll come to realize you're living a life you never wanted and become very unhappy.

The key is to realize you're not your job, you're not your lay count, you're not your mom, you're not your dad, you're you... If you identify too closely with anything it becomes your self-esteem(which really means you don't have any "self"-esteem), you never want your self-esteem outer based then it will always be in the hands of others.

Love the post overall the bro! Great topic...

Peace and Love,

Vic

haha! i was gonna write a post, but you beat me to it...

This is by Rita Omakha:
Quote:
the challenge of being humble (ego vs. confidence)

There is a difference between having an ego and being confident.

Ego focuses more on image. The image you present and want others to see and appraise you by. Ego is about other people’s acceptance of you, and has nothing to do with you. One with ego requires obeisance, admiration, to be loved and talked about – overall attention and relevancy. With ego, one needs comparisons, were the comparison works out in their favor. The ego always has something to prove. Ego is arrogant conviction.

To be confident means to be sure of yourself, without the need of external affirmations. The need to feel superior to another is absent because the self-confident person only looks at themselves (“how can I be better than I was yesterday?”). You believe in yourself, your skills and abilities. The self-confident person is not afraid of being vulnerable and will look to others for guidance when needed; they embrace their weakness and look for ways to improve. The confident person has nothing to prove. Confidence is humble conviction.

“The ego is the false self-born out of fear and defensiveness”
Most kjs have egos.... My reasoning is "a rich man does not have to say he is rich"....The dudes that get laid have more of an inner confidence, they do not need to be constantly announcing they get laid, that they are confident, that they are alpha, that they are cool, and they do not need to put other people down to make themselves look good cause the other dude makes more money, or get more girls etc...
