Calibrate after you open. Not before.
Stop making such a big deal about the opener. Your opener is probably the least important part of pick up. Just fucking talk. A girl will never tell you once you have her in bed "wellllll... I didn't like your opener, so I'm gonna go ahead and leave."
Start opening and reading body language and calibrate from there.
