In the USA - absolutely helps a lot! American girls love an accent. I regular hit the USA with a bunch of English and Aussie guys and the girls literally can't get enough of the accent. Just saying something random and the girls will be like 'oh my god I love your accent'... God bless American girls!

Interesting topic!
I've heard the same thing about British accents from Americans&Canadians, on the other hand, I've found it to be quite impressive to girls when you speak English as a second language but have an American accent (even though I personally don't like it xD)
Question for the Brits on here: When speaking English, I have some sort of Northern/Mancunian accent. How do people react to this? Is it the same as in Switzerland, where there are accents that are hated all over the country and others are loved by everyone?

I doubt American girls will know what a northern accent is, unless they watch Michael Bisping interviews or that woman from Frasier. Queens English or an Irish accent is guaranteed poon.

What's particularly funny is going somewhere in the USA where they don't get a lot of tourists from overseas. Anyone from Cali or NYC hears accents all the time but if you head to somewhere like Scottsdale Phoenix they will be all over it! An English mate goes out there every year and literally gets laid every time he goes out!

My ex-girlfriend was American (Im from Scotland). She used to tell me all the time how sexy she thought my voice was. Her American friends all thought so too, to the point I probably could have scored there if I felt like it. So yeah, they lap it up big time

I'd say those two are probably the favourites in the USA but maybe a European accent like French would go down well too... Or Scandinavian would work...

could an Indian guy with an American accent compete with either of those guys?

I dunno. It works because its exotic sounding, and quite unusual. The thing with American accents are that people hear them all the time, on TV in films etc. But tbh, I wouldn't have thought it was a complete deal breaker, probably as useful as having a cool hair cut or having fashonable clothes on. I guess its kind of like peacocking in a way, they hear you talk and it draws attention to you. You still have to say the right things though. Good conversation starter as well, can talk about where you're from, what you're doing in the States etc.

Record your accent and post it here. I will tell you if it's good or bad

In the US, as a few other posters have said, you can get radically different results. Try it in New York or LA, and while it will be well-received, it won't seem all that sexy or exotic. People (especially hot girls) meet guys with those types of accents every week.

However, try it anywhere in the southeast or Texas, and it's GAME. ON. Girls down there, although party animals, are fairly sheltered in that area of the country (compared to the northeast) and haven't traveled all that much. They simply do not come across a guy with an exotic accent all that often.

Once they hear that first sentence, no matter how hot the girl, she'll give you that 60-second window. After that, it's up to you...
