Why is a time constraint so imporant? It seems like it one sure thing that you should mention when you approach.

" I've only got a couple mintues" or " I have to go meet back up with my friends" are simple ones that seem to be very common

I guess I am still a little to knew to this so am curious as to the importance of this and what it does?

When you first interact with a girl you've never met, the things going through their head are: Who is he? What does he want? How long is he going to be here?

The time constraint just answers the "How long is he going to be here part," making her feel slightly more comfortable with you

So is it better to say a shorter time? I thought it was best to stretch your conversation. Or is it that you have to say "I got to go in 5 minutes" or something, and just talk and get her into you, and stretch the convo out longer than 5 minutes

-It lets you know why you're talking to her
-It creates a feeling a scarcity. Remember we all want what we can't have, so by saying you only have a minute, should register in the girls mind "he's sexy, he can only stay for a short bit, I should try to get him to stay longer"
-It provides an easy out if you fuck up etc. you can just be like "Awesome. well it was nice meeting you guys, but I have to get back to my buds... later

It is better to put in a time constraint and keep it short, yet continue the convo as long as the flow is good (well to a point, you should close soon and move on). This also gives you a scapegoat when you run into problems.

Also, it shows you are a busy guy, which will help when you first neg / show disinterest in your target, which DHV's you a little showing you have a lot of friends / things to do.

Time constraints are not always neccessary and when you use one, you do not need to stick to it. For example if you say you have only got a few minutes you can stay longer if the interaction goes well. They are used to prevent blow outs by putting the girl at ease as she thinks you will not be hanging around her too long. Sometimes I have found they can backfire with a girl saying: "well goodbye then". If this happens you could always say; "Don't be so hard on me, I am a really nice guy I just wanted to say hello to you because I thought you looked nice."
