I've been doing this for 8 months now and here is a short summary of what I think the real "secret" to pick up is. Nothing new here, just my own summary of "the bottom line" as I see it.

Becoming good at PU is not about pick up lines, or DHVing. It is not even about women. Pick up is simply about being a man. Sometimes this is called "inner game" but IMO that term misses the point. It is not only that you should have your "inner game" sorted out before you can become good at pick up - your "inner game" needs to be tuned to a specific way of being and living - that of being a "REAL MAN"

It is easy to think that "becoming a real man" has something to do with getting "older" - the idea that you transform from being a kid to a teenager to an adult - a man - with time. But there is much more to it. You can be 30, 40, 50 or even 70 years old, have a career, wife, children and grandchildren and still not be a "real man".

So who is a "real man"?

A real man is someone who lives without fear, who goes for what he wants so later he can look back at his life with no regrets. A real man looks for meaningful experiences - he does not waste his time on superficial experiences - gossip, dumb TV shows, masturbation. He knows that happiness is in the doing, in action - not in getting what he wants. He is assertive and calm. Dedicated and confident. Hardworking, creative and imaginative - an inspiration for others. He is kind and non judgmental. Proactive, positive and optimistic. A real man know what he wants in life, he has goals and ambitions. He knows that his goals come first - before any woman. A real man has his own opinions and always knows what he wants. He is not swayed by group think, by peer pressure, by social conditioning. A real man likes to be challenged - physically, emotionally, intellectually. He always treats everyone as equal, never letting anyone feel that he is better than him. Perhaps most importantly - a real man knows that anything worth knowing cannot be taught - it must be experienced and understood at first hand.

Once you get there - everything else will fall into place. You won't need pick up lines, magic tricks or anything else.

This may take a life time to achieve, it can also take no more than a couple of months. Getting there is a matter for another post.

Very well written and described. It is certainly how I would describe a " real man."

It's all about improving yourself so that you're more attractive to women.

Inner game is so important, even more important than outer game IMHO.

I know PUA has gotten flak for being about 'nerds trying to learn how to get laid'. But really that's not what it's all about. Sex isn't the end game, it's just a pleasant side effect. The end game is being a better man and the ones who benefit the most from all this is women. :D

I read this a little over a year ago, and what phangan said resonated in me. I saved it on a word document and went on my merry way. I've become a much better PUA since then and I recently lost all my documents, so I've been trying to find this post.

Just rereading this is very motivational, hopefully me bumping this will give someone else that epiphany that I had.

I'll disagree slightly.

Being a real man is not being about totally fearless, it's taking action in the presence of fear. Many guys actually welcome fear since they welcome the challenge.

In short, it's ok to be afraid sometimes.
