Real quick - here's my impression based upon my experience with friends and associated who are into the PUA "community."

They are, without exception, socially awkward and insecure dudes who lack core self confidence. They have higher than average intelligence but lower than average social intelligence. They are addicted to porn.

This technique appeals to them because it reduces interacting with females to some sort of formula that they can engage via a web subculture - and reading copious amounts of esoteric guidance on the internet is much more their speed than having a good time out with some friends. Having a good time out with some friends is a deeply painful and awkward experience for them, especially where females are involved, so they equip themselves with guidance from the PUA "community" so they have a measure of confidence that they naturally lack, perhaps due to their upbringing or past bullying.

Thoughts?

I should have added to that some borderline narcissistic / sociopathic tendencies that cause them to view females as mere objects to be unlocked via a series of "moves." Women are so OTHER to these guys that they can't empathize with them as human beings, so they reduce them to puzzles. Sad, manipulative, and creepy.

I understand your concern but disagree with your views on pickup artists. Being a pick up artist is about becoming a more attractive man on the outside and on the inside. It is about developing better social skills and becoming a more interesting person. It is about learning about human nature and how people respond to different things. It is NOT just about sleeping with women. That is merely a side effect of the good traits you will develop by learning and working on yourself. Being a pickup artist is about bettering yourself and knowing that there is always more to learn.
