For those of you that don’t know what that means, “peacocking” is wearing something showy to get the attention of a woman in a busy, distraction filled, environment such as a night club. For example a cowboy hat or a glowing necklace, the idea is that you stand out and differentiate yourself from other guys. Does making yourself look like a fool really work?

The answer is yes, and no. It depends on how you do it… http://www.beingattractive.com/does-pea ... ally-work/

I think it works, though I've never personally gone ballz out with it. The thing is, women see tons of guys who are well put together at the club, so even if you are handsome and dressed to the nines you won't really stand out in a crowd of guys who look just like you. If you peacock you will at least stand out, and it shows that you have confidence because you know haters are gonna hate and yet you wear crazy stuff anyway.

YES. Yes it does, if you do it properly. You don't want to look like a tool, but you want to stand out. The ideal is that girls will see you opening sets and having fun, and they'll say 'Wow, who is HE?!' The fact that you'll be wearing something that stands out is even better, it gives the impression that you're another level above most guys in the club. It gives you a 'sort-of-mysterious' persona to everyone around you.

BEWARE, as this can have the inverse effect when you're having a shit night, people will be like 'Who is that chode in the hat?' Ya dig, brah?

I like to wear my trilby hat when I sarge. When I have good nights, girls nick the hat to get my attention. It gets kind of annoying, but it's funny as well.

As the original poster had the correct answer: Maybe.

Peacocking, whether external(cloths), or behavioral(social), simply serves as an amplifier.

Whether that amplifier serves a positive purpose is contingent on the users ability to persuade the group that he has outlier status commensurate to be congruent with his behavior or costume in a high status way. Failing to persuade the group of his high status congruency, the peacocking will work against him.

One of these days I should write a post about asymmetric behavior aka social peacocking, as it is a topic rarely discussed, and a very effective method for pickup.

Yes it does. Don't go over board like having your whole body covered with tattos and stuff. Just enough to stand out and look different than all the other people. It's like looking at a bunch of ducks in a pond and there's that one swan that stands out. I just simply wore formal clothing than the usual people around me and tucked in my shirt with a belt and I started getting a lot of attention from girls and telling me I looked good.

If you are going to peacock then you have to wear something that you actually like. Don't just wear something because you want to get noticed. Where something that you actually like that it noticeable. For example I wear a hat a lot, but its not a baseball cap. I usually wear a fedora, which I have only ever seen one other guy at the club with one in all the times I have gone. Also I have only been asked to remove the fedora once. Makes people wonder why I get to wear a hat and no one else. Its a lot easier to explain why you wear something when you actually like it than if you bought it specifically because it stands out. Guys/girls ask about my fedora all the time.

Peacocking works! the first thing that they notice is your hair, I have a scrubbed up hair with a light wax, avoid spikes and suave-d down hair as it tends to be common, at one my point my friend wore a really ugly beanie that looks like an undergarment upside down, and it worked wonders, IMO, I would want to avoid jewelry as it tends to have that "went too far" judgment on the ladies.

This is genius! And it gives me an idea. I have this miniature rubber chicken that you squeeze and an egg shoots out it's butt. It's kinda gross but funny. Anyhoo, I'll go sarging with that thing and then when they pull it out and start playing with it I'll say "Hey,stop choking my chicken!"

i definitely think that peacocking works in some cases. i'm not a big believer in wearing a flamboyant hat or anything like that, instead i usually choose an article of clothing that is a really bright vibrant color like a tie or my shirt, for example i have a bright purple button up shirt that still looks classy but always stands out from what everyone else is wearing

Yeah, I like the rubber duck idea as well poypoy. A little duck's head peeping out the top of your pocket is more subtle than a ridiculous sombrero hat, but noticeable enough in a quirky way to get you some good attention.

As with most of the posts above, it depends largely on where you are and your personality. Peacocking is about going one step above the 'norm'. Two steps means you stand out for the wrong reasons and just get laughed at. No steps and you just melt into the crowd.

During the day, people tend to dress 'safer'. So you should tone down your peacocking. A brightly coloured sombrero would be two steps ahead and risk making you look stupid. You'd be better with something like a pair of red or pink trousers - you can make them match the rest of your outfit so you don't look like a try hard, but you still stand out more than the usual people in blue or black jeans.

At night, people tend to dress less 'safe'. Maybe they just look better - nicer trousers, nicer shirt and shoes etc. - or maybe they wear a fancy shirt that makes them stand out. As such, just wearing a pair of pink or red pants probably won't get you noticed too much - especially in a club where the lights are dark. So you might need to go one step further to get noticed.

You can also use the excuse of fancy dress nights out. Great way to get noticed - especially if there's only a few of you doing it and not 50.

Dressing that little bit nicer than everyone else can work wonders. ie. nice shirt and a sports coat to a bar where everyone is wearing jeans and tshirt. I've done that and got approached by girls more than usual.

Ditto wearing a suit when most people aren't. I walked thru town past all the bars after a work thing the other night wearing a nice suit. Got hit on by 3 women in a 10 minute walk. Even more eye contacts that I could have acted upon. But was feeling ill and had to get to bed. Sorry laydees! 8)

It works. It hasn't been my style for some time now, but it works I tells ya.

The problem with it is, it blurs the line between "peacock" and "run-of-the-mill-attention whore". You don't want trim around you muttering snide things like "Look at this douche, he's trying to hard." You've just poisoned the well, and you didn't even know it.

You need an item, but you don't need to look like an off-strip Vegas casino. Guys who don't wear shirts in a bar deserve to have their asses mailed third-class to neptune, Upside-down visors make you look like a half-retard from 1997, and leather pants are for Motley Crue. Are you willing to go on gruelling tours and do heroin? Wow, REALLY???!!? My bad, dude. Didn't think you had it in you.

I always half-laughed and truthfully half-wondered if ACTUAL peacocking would work. Y'know, stick ACTUAL male peacock feather down your ass crack, then strut around the bar like a bantam rooster screeching "KEE-AWW!! KEE-AWW!!! (peacocks sound like that)
