Number closing has been a sticking point for me for a while, I'm actually fine with Kiss Closing, usually don't even get particularly nervous about it. But... for some reason number closing is a whole different story, I never know what to say, or when to say it.

Here are some things I've tried:

- Walking away a little then saying "Oh hey you forgot to give me your number"

- If a cute sales girl that I've been gaming says "is there anything else I can do for you" I say "oh yeah one more thing. What's you're number, I'd like to get to know you better."

- Also tried just direct; "what's your number? We're going to [place] tomorrow, you can tag along etc. etc."

I thought it was mostly to do with the timing, i.e. if a girl seems really into you and has given you IOIs it doesn't matter what you say. I've had this problem even after kiss closes! Sometimes they've said no or danced around it, sometimes they said they have a boyfriend and often I've just been given fakes.

I've had genuine number closes too, but they seem arbitrary and rare and I can't notice if I'm doing anything different on the successful ones.

Any advice on this?

First off, a number close is not a question you ask her. It's a statement. Hand her your phone with her name already filled out as the contact and the cursor in the number field. What's she gonna' do, throw your phone against the wall and break it and say "Fuck no!"

Second, you can dance around the number issue before you make a direct attempt to obtain it. "Wow, you seem fun, we should really stay in contact..." What do you think that sets her up to ask you in response? Maybe something like "Yea, you're really nice, lets exchange numbers..."

A real life example was a set I opened at a restaurant. I was bouncing around tables talking to girls. I told her that I want to make sure I get her number before I leave and then got up and went to another table and left her sitting there. I didn't demand her number. I didn't ask her for her number. I established an expectation that I'd be back and she'd need to give me her number. So when I went back do you think I got it? Of course.
