There is a cute barista at a starbucks I frequent (enough that she knows my usual drink).

I don't know how to approach her however. It's probably past the expiration date of saying something, but if there is something I can say, what is it?

I guess ordering something unusual could get you talking and then just spill the beans that you like her and wanna go buy her a coffee sometime.

Should probably make her laugh given she works at Starbucks and isn't too dumb. Probably safer to not make that joke, but I don't generally do safer comments. I don't know though people behind counters or bars is not really where I excel, removes so many possibilities for kino.

totally know how that feels. I'd go up one day, be confident and ask her something like 'hi hows your day going?' She will likely say great thank you, and you? Whatever she says, you can follow on with mine's great too ______enter excuse here____ (because its great weather and im a weather person!). Keep it short for now as you dont want to look like a tryhard esp if theres a long line. But you can build on from there.

not necessarily bro, the fact that she shows you that she remembers your usual drink is an indicator or INTEREST, think about it if she wasnt the slightest bit interested in you why would she bother trying to build rapport with you by saying "i know what drink you want" see what i mean?

maybe her day was genuinely going shit and she was in a bad mood

What about the fact that when she sees me, one of two scenarios, each with a 50% chance, happens:

1. Do you want the usual?
2. [Rings up the usual without asking]

For 2, a friend tells me I can throw some sort of neg with this.

NOTE: For clarification, there is also a second barista that knows my usual.

yeah you could respond to both scenarios 1 and 2, and you could sort of neg with scenario 2... like Quiche said, it would be a good idea to throw a curve ball by ordering something else and using the fact that you're not ordering the usual to engage her in a conversation, then just go ahead and ask her if she wants to go for a coffee or something, or just try and # close

I would go for something like:

When she will see you and offer you the normal drink. Just tell her:
- Hey, I was thinking about this and it is not fair!!!
- she will normally ask: What? or what do you mean?
- then you can answer something like: "well you know me very well, and I know nothing about you" They normally laugh about it. (experience)
here she has many options, such as tell you her name, ask for yours, etc.

after this you will be in the real game , so organize yourself and get her phone number.

another one I have used before, when a is to girl in a place guess what I want is to look surprised and tell her "Am I am that predictable?" this normally opens a conversation.
if they say "yes" you say, maybe I should start doing things different way, for example, I do not even know your name..... bla, bla, bla.

You could throw in some light hearted wit, yes ... for example "i know you spend pretty much every waking moment of your life around coffee but how about going for a coffee with yours truly?" and the receipt joke is good and you should definitely try it if it feels comfortable for you

I would like to thank everyone so far for all the tips they have given. I'll let you know how it goes once I see her again. The last few times I went (which is on a schedule) she is not around.

This is not intended to sound stalker-status either. I have a set hour where I go to Starbucks within.

UPDATE: I opened the set, and got her name.

It went along the lines of:

Me: Good mornin'
Her: Morning!
Me: You know, I've come here often and yet to know your name
Her: It's [Amy]
Me: Ohh, nice to 'meet' you.
Her: Yours is Kyle right? I know your favorite drink.
Me: And that's what I'd like today please [smile]

By this time, I'm holding up the line.

Her: Is that all?
Me: Yes, and have a nice day Amy!

I feel as I didn't do all I could. But it's done for today. Tomorrow, I [might] see her again, and given that I do, how would I go about asking her out/getting her number?

Yeah the thing is that the barristas get a lot of people hitting on them...the question is what sets you apart from the other customers?

Also personally I wouldn't ask for a number in front of her workmates...just my guess someone correct me on this one.

Another alternative is for me to give her my number in some note form or something, pre written, or written on a napkin at the register.

Oh the possibilities on how this could play out. I'd prefer help sometime today if anyone is out there.
