I know after the basic opener would be to either say a "pre-determinded" topic or to find similarities (could be based on the surroundings) but i'm a total noob. What's a good all rounder topic?

Gum. You ask if she has any. She'll say yes or no. She says yes, you take a piece and thank her, then transition into observational/assumptive material. She says no, you laugh and tell her you thought all girls chewed gum, or some other silly comment. The laugh should get her to laugh, thus building rapport. Then you say btw I just noticed that you....and then go into observational/assumptive material.

You see what happened there? She only has one of two choices, both of which lead to the same result on your part, which is to get further into your routine and past the open.

not sure how helpful this will be to you, but say whatever comes to mind... trust me once you've opened its A LOT easier to think of what to say, opening is the hardest obstacle

alright thanks, will give it a try! Following your suggestion, do you think if i said "btw i just noticed that you are REAL hot, hahaha, i didn't want any gum, just thought i'd come by to say hi" would be a good follow thru? It's direct, but if in a high energy environment it shld work in my favour right..?

thanks man, my only picking up experience was with 3 girls playing pool haha. at the end of the day they did give me their twitter (HAHAHA i didn't went for #close, those girls were in my sch so..) that aside, the conversation was pretty dull. I don't want to repeat this so, saying what comes to mind might work, but is there an alternative to this?

if you dont feel comfortable saying what comes to mind at first, then there is of course the option of using what is known as "canned material", browse around these forums, especially the "Routines", "Approaching and Opening", and "Mid Game" sections of these forums...

You'll find various words, phrases and routines that have worked for other guys and have the potential to work for you, and you can definitely use these as a starting point.

Also referring to your original post, good all-round topics include
- the venue and what is going on around you
- people in the vicinity who you have noticed doing weird/funny things
- the weather
- talk about your plans

etc. etc. etc.
