Being new to the community I have a question about the evolution of pickup and how the game has changed over the last while.

My first time officially sarging I used standard opinion openers and only one (who lies more?) was directly shot down because the girls had heard it before. This was only about 2 months ago (late July, 2012). I was sarging in Regina, SK, Canada, a city of about 180,000 and thus has a very limited exposure to PUA's. If I was in NY or LA I would have been blown out of the water. These lines worked for a guy like Style because he used them nearly a decade ago.

So my question is, what are common openers that are overused and likely to get called on so I don't use them. Obviously, the best PUA stay ahead of the curve and that's how they retain their edge. Eventually, I want to try sarging in a huge city on the cutting edge of pickup and want to know the most up to date methods.

Any insight on the evolution of pickup would be greatly appreciated, as obviously the game has changed a lot in the last decade.

I believe most modern PUAs stick with "natural" game - that is, a much more dynamic version of it, because the old canned stuff has a shelf life.

I hear pua's saying that they don't encounter many sets recognizing old or re-used material. But there have been a lot of new openers and approach techniques that have come about in the last decade, so that may be why. The opinion openers are kind of played out by now, but they can still work. Yes, you are more likely to encounter sets that have already heard them, but that's the risk you run when re-using canned material from a decade ago over and over again.

Also, you only need the bare bones of the opener--the structure. The meat and potatos of it you can fill in with your own unique information. The other day I used "Who cheats more?" as one of my middle game questions. That's just a spin off of who lies more. You have to be a little bit creative as a pua, especially as time goes on. And of course with natural you never really have to worry about redundancy.

@puaninja - I agree that each routine or opener should be customized every time you use it. I think the idea is to eventually get off any canned lines and become completely natural, that's at least my goal.

Where do you sarge from? Being from a small city, I have the advantage of having pretty low competition from other PUA's using canned material on sets I approach. I'd imagine the smaller the city you sarge in, the more likely the girls havent' heard the material, so you don't have to worry about using a line/routine that the target has already heard. However, I want to try to step out of my comfort zone and sarge in the big leagues (NYC) to test myself. Plus, the bigger the city, the hotter the chicks. Can't complain.

I sarge in a big city. I think the goal is to get a standard opening that works for you and sticking to that, whether its canned opinion openers or situational/natural openers. Anything can be used as an opener, it's just meant to get the girl's attention and justify the reason why you are talking to them. And even if you use a lame opinion opener, you can transition into natural conversation with your middle game.
