I think you missed the point entirely Buck.
The point isn't that he was testing his "alphaness", but that it is perfectly reasonable to stand your ground when you have the rights to your ground.
Rye, the mall is a public place. Everyone has an equal right to be there.
Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to adopt an antagonistic public persona that encourages petty public disagreements or altercations with other men. Especially when you are in an obviously weaker position physically.
The terms alpha male and social intelligence are not mutually exclusive.
And when I make room for a guy with a family, or anyone else that's in an obviously weaker position than I am, it's not because they stared me down or because I'm not being some alpha male gorilla. It's because I'm being polite, considerate, and a gentleman in a public place.
Because I could easily break most of them in half, or worse if I chose to do so. And I don't need to do so to feel good about myself.
That is precisely the point. And being alpha often involves being the bigger man.
I call it being alpha w/social intelligence.
It's what separates most humans from other animal species that lack the higher brain functions of reason.
Now, if you, Tripp or anybody else wants to fight, or try to intimidate others over a piece of ground at the mall as an expression of your alpha male or racial dominance then have at it. You'll eventually find yourself in one of four places. Embarrassed, the hospital, the morgue, or prison.
And that's not going to do a whole lot for your survival/replication value in the eyes of 'most' women.
