Is it uncommon to have no success, and suddenly lots of success? Is there a "threshold" to learning this game like there is with learning a foreign language?

yes, there is a huge threashold between, never talking to any girls and meeting maybe 1-20 a year that talk to you, and constantly talking to girls, and meeting about 5+ a day, all year, every day

this alone will drastically change your situation, but you have to actually do it
