Well. You start off by explaining yourself for what you were doing. Kind of obvious, looks like it is planned, I mean she can obviously see the phone. Makes you look very translucent.

Simply tell her that you couldn't let her walk past without saying she looked stunning. Start off with "Wow" instead of "Hi...". Most people can see through the BS.

Well, you could use it as an opener, but would you have to keep talking on the phone to your imaginary friend. I think that is a good way for her to think about you for the rest of that day, because if you hang up your imaginary friend, she might just think you want to get into her pants. (We all want to of course, but girls love it when they don't expect it at first. ) Eventually if they are really attracted from that approach that you gave them earlier, they will eventually analyze it for themselves and think to why you walked away.

That is the worst pickup line I have ever heard.

First of all, hot chicks are very well aware of the fact that they're hot. You don't have to shove it down their throat.

Second of all, girls don't like getting free drinks or compliments for that sake, atleast not in the beginning. They don't respect such guys.

Direct game isn't really all just about complimenting a girl. It's all about having the balls to say what other guys are too afraid to say and it cuts thru so much bullshit. and my friend I have spoken to manier women about this lone issue and the majority said, in the few occasions a guy was that open and upfront with them, they were shocked and taken away by the confidence and nerve the dude had. I personally have had success with both direct and indirect game.

and as for the 'Wosrt pick-line" remark? I think about 90% of the dudes on here will tell you that the line isn't all that important, rather the tone of your voice and energy your body conveys (bodylanguage). and Soncheese clearly states to "transition" after you dropped the opener so I think he intends to close.
In my book it's a fairly alright opener.

Avoid words like "BUT" "UG" "UH" avoid pauses! and get this line down pat, say it like you mean it. Don't stutter or fall apart. Use charm(?) look into her eyes and stuff like that.

Stunning is used as a back handed compliment to women. I know a guy who taught me this way before PUA days.

Anything big like that, use small simple words like adorable/cute etc.. Don't build her self esteem up like that when you are talking without a neg/disqual. She will think she can do better etc..

I agree with NullPointer. That's a low percentage move. A good rule to go by in an initial open is don't let the woman know you are interested in her looks. I did it that way maybe half the time for a few years and it never worked.
