If I propose the Zoo and she gives me a hard time, say for example "I can't hang out that long" or "it's hot" should I give in, or try to convince her to go, or what? It's supposed to be a hot, clear day.

The sad fact is "resisting" rarely does anything but create more resistance. There are really two ways to deal with those kinds of small rejections. Either you go the dominating route and insist, calmly and surely, on your way. If this is still rejected, you're pretty much done.

Or you can try the judo approach where you just play off the rejection, turn it fun, playful, etc. and try to maneuver back the other direction again.

It depends on your style which you can pull off. But if someone says they can't go to the zoo, arguing with them is not going to get you anywhere.
