Go for the hottest girl is good practice, OR you if you see any early indications of IOIs as you approach you can always switch. Generally speaking when approaching a group you may see an IOI, she'll fix her hair real quick, lick her lips to moisturize them before talking, give you more eye contact, etc. Generally speaking if that happens I go for that one, unless she just isn't attractive enough for me.
