I have been successfully using this number-close technique online with 3 girls.
it works in the morning or afternoon..

start messaging a girl on some dating site, or even Facebook.
when she replies back say something along the lines of

you should give me your phone number, just in case. you definitely do not want me to get caught in office on a dating website/Facebook
