So when using an opinion opener you don't want to sound like you're taking a survey, but what happens if someone in the set actually does ask you if you're taking survey?
What's a good response to this?
Is it best to turn it around and make a joke of it?

it really depends. I use it a lot in art galleries. works 99%.

You "Root" you opener, so you tell them why you went up to them, then there will be no doubts and they will believe the thing you told them

though i am a big fan of there kind of openers :)
