Don't be, it's called "being real", women appreciate when guys are flat out real and confident in who they are. Because then it opens up the ability to just have a fucking mutual interaction. Guys posting here like Skills360 and 870 understand that. They've just used a bit of PUA technique to refine the hit rate I think.
I personally haven't even read the game, because I don't need to. I have my own techniques for getting what I want, but they're secondary to my personality. My "PUA" techniques are generally just for opening, this forum frankly is the first I've heard of "mid-game" or "closing", once I've got something open, I'm usually able to take it to close easily. Hasn't always been that way though, used to be bad at it, but I just kept trying and got good, mainly because I stopped giving a fuck about negative outcomes and got completely confident.
Unfortunately there are some here who think they need to act like "real alpha men" and use a bunch of PUA gimmicks to try and get women. They might get some with this facade, but a lot of women think these guys are fucking clowns. They're the pickup monkeys you speak of.
Just continue being yourself yo, and work on improving your fear of rejection. Once you get rid of that, your personality will shine through, and the world of women is your oyster.
