Whats the best way?
"Would you like to go on a date?" is a question format. Not good, it leaves an opening for a negative answer.
"Go/come on a date with me" sounds too much like an order, little weird.

Thoughts? Comments?

Let there be a negative answer. "I want to go on a date with you, lets go."

I usually like to say something like "lets go," because I'm leading her. And if she really doesn't want to go, she'll still say no.

Date's are too formal, and too cliche...will expect you to go to the cinema, get dinner all while you paying.

I prefer the term 'hang out', or should "bump in to each other".

hmm.. I like Gift's idea.
I go to university with this girl so we already hang out.
That's why I need something to let her know that I'm not just casually friends with her.

It all depends how you act. I could go to the park with a girl(friend) who I'm not interested in, then I could go to the same park with a girl who I am interested in. It all depends what my intentions are and how I act on/to her.

Maybe how you word it too:

"I always seem to see you in University...do you actually have a life out side of Uni? Be good to bump in to you outside of Uni one time."

you NEVER ask a girl on a date. NEVER. instead invite her to join you at some place. you can say how about a drink? or invite her to an event that you want to see. it doesnt matter if she likes it or not. she will accompany you.
