The whole idea of the number close is bridging the gap between your first interaction and your next meeting where you would ideally build comfort. Plausible deniability is key here. For example you get her number to let her know about a party coming up, or to schedule a workout together, something...you get the point.

Everything that the guys above said was right. Although some tips are: If she is an HB10 or HB11, make sure not to leave her a message. Girls like that don't respond back to people who leave messages because she most likely has a ton of options/plans to hang with other people. Also, if you guys enjoyed a joke, maybe start the conversation off with that. If you did a good job of conveying the joke, you don't even have to say "Hi its ...," just start the conversation off talking about that joke.

I think you need to call regardless. If you start texting, you won't be able to stop. Texting is a fucking trap and will do nothing but work against you in the future. If you're going to open a can of worms with a woman, do it with a call.

Always call before texting, There isn't enough chemistry before a phone call for successful texting. As a matter of fact, let her initiate the first text messages, you just do the phoning.

ok well Im 21 met her at the gym. Im assuming she is 19-22. met at college gym. dont really know her. I dunno but I have to really disagree with the calling thing especially with the below 25 crowd. people just don't do it anymore. since texting is by far more popular than calling, if you call right away, it can come across as a bit odd. texting is a super easy way to start some flirtation and build up some attraction.

now, if you simply don't like texting.. then by all means, give her a call. but i think you'll find out that sooner or later, you're going to have to start learning to text and use it to your advantage. if you do have to call, you're not going to have anything to say or talk about. i would use that just as a quick way to set up a date and have her be on the spot for a quick response.
