Love this thread. Im writing a little book of my own called
live laugh love travel. But most of its gotta wait til I get back from overseas, Im writing it as I go.
3 weeks until I leave. USA for 3 months. Europe for 3 months. (Asia will have to wait)...
I am selling off my car and only going with $10,000 AUD (about 11,000 US) as well as 2 best mates from Australia. Ive basically put my career on hold, because well, im 21. I dont feel ready to start my office career yet. I wanna broaden my horizons a bit first. Who knows what might happen?
Some things Id like to add!
Tour Groups
I have travelled on
Contiki Tours they are an expensiver way to travel, but You will already be in a group with girls to meet and have fun with. Immediate social proof, check! dozens of girls, check! drinking every night, check! all staying in the same hotels, check! go home drunk together, check! .... you know the rest. I can vouch for them, they are SO much fun.
I recommend these if you find it hard to organize things, take initiative and meet people on your own. Its already done for you!! Just a little more expensive..
Travel for cheap
Small hotels can be cheaper than a backpacker if there are a few of you. $20 each a night at a backpacker compared to 4 people in a small hotel $50 a night... It all depends.
Live and Stay. I plan to be living in the Greek Islands for a month, and basically you get a job at a small hostel or bar, and you can stay there for free if you work.
There is a site called WWOOFING (or something), willing worker on farms... free stay! I met a cute Austrian girl who was doing this in Australia.
Couch Surfing
Im glad I discovered Couch Surfing. Its basically what the Original post is describing, but its an organised website and not to do with PUA. You stay on welcoming peoples' couches along your journey. I have ended up sleeping with the couch surfers before, because well... a bed is more comfortable than a couch.
With Couchsurfing, you dont offer your PUA expertises, you offer your cultural uniqueness and experiences. Give them a small gift (I give a small carved boomerang).
This is great if youre not into the whole idea of 'travelling as a PUA.' To me, that sounds a bit weird and Im not sure if I would be comfortable to do it.. Its way less pressure to just be ME! a proud couchsurfer!
Accents or your ROCKSTAR weapon
The people I meet are amazed at my Australian accent, and I have no idea why, but to me this feels like being a ROCKSTAR, when they are captivated at everything you say. I talk about kangaroos and koalas and dingos, how we grew up, and they enjoy the stories and are generally interested in the different cultures and way of life...
But the catch is... It doesnt become an accent til I leave Australia! so we all have one, you just gotta get out there and use it to your advantage
Get a facebook sorted
or a social networking site.... this way you can network with the hundreds of people you meet on the travel! keep in contact. Next time they will come visit you, invite you on other trips... the list goes on!
