Hello guys,
I have decided to start playing a music instrument.I think guitar (especially acouistic and electro) is great to play.It would be great playing bob dylan's songs and some solos of Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd, Linkin Park and Green day songs. As u see im much into slow music bt not metal or hard music. But the problem is almost all teenagers in my country play guitar and picking up girls with playing guitar is cliche as its told here before.
On the other side, it would be perfect to play slow songs with piano.I dont like classic music and im not sure if im supposed to love classic music to get into piano lessons. What i like about piano is that the man who plays it looks noble.I love Mike Shinoda(from Linkin Park) and Elton John and many guys(even the rapper Jamie Fox) on piano.I think it will be different and impressive on women's eyes to play piano.
Btw i dont know much about music tecnically and wanna grow up on it.Feel free if u suggest me to play another instrument.Share ur ideas please...

being able to play any instrument is an amazing thing. and it's stupid to learn something (whatever that may be) to pickup girls, but you'll learn it when you're older.

What Defy said is a fact. A lot of my friends picked up a guitar just to impress girls... and it doesn't help at all.

However, any instrument is good. If you're picking an instrument just to impress girls, guitar would probably be better. If you're actually interested in making genuine music, go with piano. Piano theory is more universal in the music world.

You should really just pick what you enjoy more though.

Hey guys thx for the responds. It sounded like i want to play something just to pick up gals but no.Firstly i want to get involved in music. But even you accept it guitar turned to pick up toy for lots of teenagers(especially for high school boys) When i was in high school one of my friend who is nt much confident started to play bass guitar and he is quite good on it but still sucks with girls.
One of my priorty to learn an instrument is also to socialize myself and to be more extrovert and confident in myself, to DHV.So it will help me impress girl in my opinion.Beside this i wanna get into a dance course for the same reasons.(Feel free to suggest me any kind of dance course)
I wanna be sure which instrument suits me well.I did that asking people's idea about myself before choosing my department in university. If im supposed to love and start with classic music to play piano, its not much good for me.I more like that kind of piano musics (Augustana - Boston / Linkin Park - Pushing me away piano version / Elton John - Sorry Seems to be hardest word etc.) And i like singing(especially english musics) even tho my bad voice :)
Finally let me tell you this is my first year in the university, i will dedicate myself this semester to improve myself more.Thats why im asking that kind of simple questions.
I hope things are going to be better

hey man its not the fact ur playing guitar they like, its what it all prepresents, PASSION, COMMITMENT, CREATIVITY. ect

you could learn anything within reason personally i dont think brass instruments would work quite so well or for a fact anything very orchestral , but you never know what a girl will like.

GUITAR both acoustic and electric
piano
sax
drums all have worked for me and friends. best of luck

Piano is nice because it makes a lot of sense for music theory. I'm working on it, and it's coming along pretty quickly.

Also there's this huge upsurge in electronic music, that I love. I'm interested in creating my own music, beats and the like, and piano is the easiest instrument to input into a computer for those purposes. Cheap keyboards make creating your own compositions very accessible.

Learning piano will essentially teach you all of music theory, and in turn, all other instruments as well. You will figure out what notes make what chords, progressions, scales, and so on. Image

I think the cliched view is that guitar is cooler. But I think really, that's more to do with the rock star in a band type attitude, or the fact that if you play guitar there are more opportunities to get up in front of people and show off your talents - and doing so publicly suggests great confidence and personality etc. etc.

Guitar is also easier to learn, in my opinion. Especially early on. You can learn a few chords fairly quickly, and then you can play quite a few rock songs to a pretty decent standard fairly soon. However, with piano, you're not going to be playing rock songs to a good standard for quite some time.

However, you don't need to learn classical music from the off to play piano. I have played piano since I was about 8 and have gone through different phases. When I first started out having lessons, I did tend to play classical stuff because that was the sort of stuff that my teacher used to teach beginners. As I got older I lost interest in the classical and so asked my teacher to start doing more rock type stuff with me, and there's plenty of it. Especially as you say you like slower songs - the slower, more acoustic songs are obviously easier to transcribe to piano rather than the big quick rock anthems which pretty much only work because of a loud electric and a booming bass.

Also, are you planning on learning it at home on your own, or with lessons? I would say that guitar is probably easier to teach yourself. Lessons would make both instruments easier, but I think you'll find it harder to learn piano out of a book/through a video than you would guitar. But that's just my opinion.

As others have said, if you've got a genuine interest in music, I'd go for the piano. Whilst it might take you longer to get to a decent standard - and longer before you're playing decent level of rock songs on the piano than on the guitar - that's because you need to learn more musical bases first. It also gives you a more general music knowledge. I live with a few people who play violins/double bass/saxophone and bassoons in an orchestra, and I've never played those, but I can read their music, understand the form of the piece they're playing etc. Whereas guitar is often more chord based and won't help you quite as much.

Finally, I would just back up the point that you should play whatever interests you. Don't do it to pick up girls!

Guitar all the way. You will quickly find piano is extremely limiting in creating a unique sound. In making music with piano even you are playing a note or you aren't. In other words there is almost no expression in playing each note. The guitar on the other hand lends itself well to very creative people and someones touch can greatly influence how they sound. With a guitar there are so many endless ways to play each note. You can bend up to a note, you can hammer on , pull off etc.

Piano is great if you want to play soft music, classical etc. but its also very limiting as far as the sound is concerned. You probably aren't going to be able to jump into a heavy metal band and then play blues the next week with a piano. I'm not hating on piano but there is a good reason why everyone and their momma plays guitar nowadays.

Actually im not fan of hard and metal music.im mostly like rap and hiphop music.Thats why the instrument i will learn must suit my personality and look cool.i used to listen some songs of Rammstein Metallica AC/DC but i dont like their all songs. But i like almost all songs of Linkin Park and Green Day.And i like some solos (Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin, Another Brick on the wall by both Korn and Pink Floyd, Knocking on Heavens Door by Guns n Roses, Always Somewhere by Scorpion) And i like music which played trough acustic guitar too just like Cat Stevens' songs, Bob Dylan songs and some oldies songs like the song called End of the line by Traveling Wilburys.
What u think about tat wat suits me better?

Guitar is not only sexier for sounding way better than Piano, but also the curves, the way the guitar almost resembles the lines of a woman and his being handled by a man turns women on.

ps. I just ordered one of these puppies

Ya the one u ordered is good enough.i think ur right guitar suits me better but i should start with acoustic guitar and maybe move up to the electro later. So i can learn using guitar very well on acoustic and since its also cheaper than electro, it might be better for a beginner me.
I think learning guitar is not that much easy. Can i be really good at it in 5-6 months or does it require more time and effort to be good at?
