| so this one is writen by tyler,i'm not a fan but this has alot of good advices, and fun to read.
I was flipping through the ealier thread and while I think everyone's questions were answered in there, I'd like to open up another thread about the epiphany I had while reading it -- which was the misconceptions and limiting beliefs that many people have about the necessity of having a lot of money to live a cool lifestyle.
Right off the bat, I want to say that I believe in being frugal. I've lived frugal for years, and I think that spending money is for people who are misguided. People read about me living in a closet for 18 months at Project Hollywood, and whle many people probably think I'd be embarrassed about that, I view it as a badge of honor. I've also spent nights on floors, in bus shelters, in abandoned apartments, and many other places. This isn't something I brag about because I'm not looking to make an identity out of it, but it's also something that in my own mind I'm very proud about. I think that people who haven't done this are missing out, because they've restricted themselves to a boring lifestyle.
Now as far as why I don't believe in blowing money, my reason is simple. If you are not "old money" then you really have very little "net worth". In other words, although it's fairly easy to project the IMAGE of having a high net worth, it's hard to ACTUALLY HAVE a high net worth. You can read about this further in the book "The Millionaires Next Door" if you're interested.
That being the case, if you don't come from "old money" then it will take you a life time to build a high net worth for yourself and your future family, and you should not be spending money on "stuff", but rather, mostly on things that are "investments" -- whether that's in your education, your skills, your businesses assets, or some other business that you're investing into. Obviously you want to enjoy your money to an extent, because you could die at any time and if you lived like a total cheapskate then you'd have missed out. But generally you want to restrict expenditures on legitimate life experiences that you'll benefit from, not "stuff".
So, reading this, you're probably wondering: I've seen the pictures on that guy's blog, and it looks like he's living like a hip hop star or movie actor or something. And then, his organization did 3 million in sales last year and is in the Inc 5000. How can this make any sense?
Well as far as BUSINESS goes, every dollar you get, you want to FLIP BACK INTO YOUR COMPANY. Only a very poor businessman takes money out as personal income, and pays ridiculous amounts of taxes on it, when he could be flipping it back into his organization. If you aren't at a level where you're doing many millions in sales, and you have the magical combo of x-numbers of months of necessary cash reserves, your business is NOT STABLE. It could fail at any time, which RSD has come inches away from failing and going BYE BYE at least 4 different times. As soon as you get money from a big win, you ask yourself "Where is this going?" What can we use this money for to build the business, to offer more value to customers, so they're loyal and stay with us? NOT, where can we take a fat vacation to??
Then, as far as LIFESTYLE, and this is what I think is the most important part of this post, you can live the lifestyle of a rockstar for practically nothing, simply by being innovative and thinking outside the box.
It's always driven me nuts how many people will never travel, never get outside their comfort zones of home, because they think they need to blow retarded amounts of money on it. If you want to travel, here's what you do. It's really simple, and we've done this for years.
First, if you're in this community, that is the easiest way to get hook ups I can think of. Simply post a shit load of good content, and show enthusiasm for the game. Then, you have all these dudes who you make friends with on this forum, who have houses that they will let you crash at.
Now I know what you're thinking. "My game isn't that good, so why would somebody put me in their house just so we can hit up clubs together?" Well here's a lesson for you. DO NOT FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CANNOT CONTROL.
Things that are outside your control are:
-Your skill level (you're working on it, but you can't control it on a day to day basis)
-Your results with women
-How "cool" you are
But, the things you CAN control are:
-(BY KASABI) "it's entirely within your control to get really fucking good at something.(Imagine a football team. . . it's great to have a teammate who is positive, upbeat, and smiles all the time but if he has no talent to fill a position, he's useless. It's the same way with any group, whether it's business or social.)"
-Keeping a smile on your face
-Always being upbeat
-Being a riot to hang out with
-Being the FIRST GUY TO APPROACH, and being a total approach machine at all times, so that everyone wants to hang out with you
So in other words, one thing I know is that I'd rather hang out with a guy who is super positive and fun to hang out with, and a total approach machine who doesn't sit there like a moron LOOKING AT WHAT I'M DOING because he wants me to lead him, than a guy who is "better at the game" but not self-starter who is fun to be around.
As a newbie, even if you suck, it is extremely easy to get the veteran guys to hang out with you, or other newbies who want to be around an upbeat guy, just be focusing on what you can control. Everyone is looking to "ride the wave of enthusiasm". Why do you think all these veteran dudes hung out with Nick and I back in the day?? Not because we were super pimps -- we were basically idiot kids. It was because we were super enthusiastic about what we were doing, and people wanted to hang out with guys who were fun, who were movers and shakers.
Using the hookups we made in the community, Nick and I were able to travel the world virtually for free for many years. This is what offset the cost that we made practically no money whatsoever for our first several years of doing BC's. From there, we still live frugal, as for example, I just came back from a weekend in Phoenix with $90 in my pocket, and I left with $200. So I spent only $110 in four days. And Nick, likewise, left for his tour of Europe with $1000 in his pocket, and came back with $400 after a month.
You do this by making hook ups with people and offering them value, and making them want to be your friend. Yeah, that's pretty easy for Nick and I to do now because we're "known", but guess what?? It's no different now than it was in 2002 when we were doing the exact same thing. If anything it's harder to do now, because people are so surprised we want to crash with them, whereas in the past it was more normal.
Soooooo, that being the case, if your lifestyle SUCKS, don't be looking at the people who are living large and bitching about how they're making mad money that you don't have access to. Sure, a lot of idiots blow their cash like water, and live that type of hip hop lifestyle, while later declaring bankruptcy. But there are also a lot of people who live a very similar lifestyle for practically nothing, just by being resourceful and thinking outside the box.
Lastly consider this:
Trip to Hawaii #1:
-Stay in fat hotel for $300/night, which is $2100 a week
-Eat in nice restaurants for $100/day in food, which is $700 a week
,..........and then enjoy the world class beaches, hiking, weather, etc.
Trip to Hawaii #2:
-Stay on buddies couch for $0, bring an eye mask and ear plugs so you sleep comfortably
-Buy groceries and stash them in your buddies fridge, and eat for $15/day, which is $105 for the week
........and then ALSO enjoy the world class beaches, hiking, weather, etc.
Notice that the CORE of the trip, as in, the GOOD PARTS, are still the same. That's how we've been doing this all these years. Truth revealed.
Let's be real here. For a family man, with crazy expenses and time commitments to his kids, travelling is pretty damned hard. But for a SINGLE GUY with NO FAMILY TO HOLD HIM BACK, give me a break -- any guy in that situation can travel, see the world, and live the MAIN GOOD PARTS of the rockstar lifestyle (travel, etc), without the frills, for pretty darned cheap.
You can either look into this, or sit around bitching and moaning about how it's bullshit and try to poke holes in it. Up to you. But I recommend thinking outside the box, because it's worth it.
Tyler
Oh and PS: How did I live Ocean front in Hawaii?? Simple. I lived without a car (and all the repairs, insurance, and gas that comes with it), and in a 400 square foot apartment. I chose to take the place with the bed on the balcony, 10 feet away from the ocean, and a 10 minute walk from downtown Waikiki, and gave up the car and the unnecessary living space. To get around the island, I found guys who wanted to learn game, made friends with them, and in return they drove me around wherever I needed. This kept my expenses lower than what most of you reading this post probably blew all those months. You can have practically anything you want, IF you're willing to get outside the box and be resourceful. _________________ "Hank Moody: I love women, I have all of their albums."
